Her real name is Onika Tanya Maraj. When she was 5 years old, Nicki moved from Trinidad to Queens, New York, where her parents set up a shop. Her father was addicted to drugs and alcohol, and even attempted to burn their house to support his addiction. Luckily Nicki was a stong girl who could take care of herself and embodying the 'Mean Girl' persona at LaGuardia Arts, performing arts school in Manhattan where she studied drama. Soon when she graduated from the high school, she worked at Red Lobster and purchased a studio, a white BMW in which she drive around the neighbourhood, blasting her own song.
